That fancy Conbook
Keep your conbook handy during the con. Not only does it have information on events, guests and places to check out. But it also has a detailed guide of panels and functions, as well as the local area around Rydges on Swanston.
Schedule & Events
Event Details
At this stage we’re still in the process of planning the events and the schedule, but you can certainly expect all of the follow events at MiDFur – and there’s plenty more that will be running over the four days of MiDFur.
Charity Auction:
(DAY: Sunday, Dec 5th| TIME: TBA | ROOM: Parkview Lounge [Open])
Every year the charity auction has been a highlight and raised thousands of dollars for charity. Our target to beat this year is $5705. Thanks to entertaining hosts and an amazingly generous crowd, the bidding is surprisingly exciting as people bid hundreds of dollars for artwork of all kinds, from drawings to fursuit parts, toys and even animatronic ears. Each year always seems to be capped by a special item that draws a huge amount of interest and breaks the $1000 mark in the bidding.
MEET ‘N’ GREET:
(DAY: Thursday, Dec 2nd| TIME: TBA | ROOM: Parkview Lounge [Open])
There’s a bar, a view of the city of Melbourne at night and over 250 furries in the room. It’s time to meet some of the wonderful people you’ll be spending time with for the next four days.
It's even Under-18's friendly! With the drinking area on the outside deck, so the entire fandom can enjoy the festivities!
Friday Night Wild!:
(DAY: Friday, Dec 3rd| TIME: TBA | ROOM: Parkview Lounge [Open])
Alcohol, music and good company is in plentiful supply. Kicking off the night too is Australia’s premiere furry podcast, ACTFur On Air. The show is led by Kraden, Carnival and Jeneara as well as a number of other co-hosts from around Australia – not to mention robotics engineer Dr Kell from Yale University in America. This team of furries entertain with their banter, odd stories and their innate ability to make people laugh by just being themselves.
Saturday night:
(DAY: Saturday, Dec 4th| TIME: TBA | ROOM: Rooftop Deck, Parkview Lounge [Open])
Dinner for the Super Hero sponsors and then a big dance party for everyone with furry DJs playing. Expect a bar and a chance to talk with hundreds of fellow furries.
Again, also Under-18's friendly with seperated Bar and Social areas.
Furry Hall of Fame:
(DAY: Saturday, Dec 4th| TIME: TBA | ROOM: Parkview Lounge [Open])
A ceremony where we honour individuals and institutions which have made a significant contribution to the furry culture, both in Australia and internationally. Past Furry Hall of Fame inductees were author Bernard Doove and Anthrocon in 2008, followed by comedian 2 Gryphon and writer Paul Kidd in 2009.
Dealers Den:
(DAY: Every Day | TIME: 10:00am-6:00pm | ROOM: Dealers Den)
It’s a trade area, but not as you know it. Within these walls are artists of all kinds from those who wield the pen and pencil to costumers and sculptors. This is chance to shop for art and other items from furry artists that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else.Dealers info page
Art Show:
(DAY: Saturday, Dec 4th| TIME: 10:30am-5:30pm | ROOM: Art Show Room)
or those who don’t want a dealers table or just want to show off their artwork, there’s the art show on Saturday. Some of it’s for sale, some of it’s just there to look at. Art show information
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU EXPECT?
As mentioned, the full event schedule is still being worked on, but the following is a list of other events you’re likely to see:
- Comic and art panels with our guest of honour and legendary comic writer and artist, Stan Sakai.
- DJing, fursuiting and filmmaking panels with German furry and guest of honour, Big Blue Fox
- Stand up comedy with Australia’s own furry comedian and metalhead, Anthrax.
- A panel looking at furry podcasts through the ages, hosted by a number of leading furry podcasters.
- Feminism in the furry fandom, hosted by female furries who would like to assert that yes, they do exist.
- Something...wonderful. Last year we went to extreme lengths to introduce Uncle Kage as our secret guest of honour in 2009 by introducing him with a four minute action/thriller film that ended with an on-stage reveal. So this is something we’re determined to top.
