Why Melbourne?
MiDFur began as a proposed meeting of friends spread across Australia in Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle and Melbourne. Melbourne was chosen as the meeting place for these five and over the course of history is has turned out to be a most excellent choice.
About melbourne
The capital city of Victoria in Australia, Melbourne has a strong art culture, which is most appropriate for a art driven community such as the furry fandom. Federation Square, located on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Street, is home to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), the SBS TV network and the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Federation Square a fantastic meeting venue with its open spaces and cafes and with its impressive screen and sound system is also venue for everything from sports screenings, live bands and the Tropfest short film festival. Another place which is both a fantastic meeting point and source of entertainment and education isThe State Library Of Victoria where the grassy front is always dotted by people.
Shopping
For shopping, you shouldn’t go past Bourke Street, a store populated road which is restricted to pedestrians and trams. This should be one of the first destinations especially for people going clothes shopping, perhaps followed up by Melbourne Central or QV. Melbourne is also home to pop culture and comic stores such as Minotaur, Classic Comicsand Comics R Us and music stores like Missing Link.
Melbourne is a multicultural city, which has many benefits including a wide range of food. There is literally too many choices to list, but a well organised online guide can be found here.
Lastly, Melbourne is very accommodating for visitors with plenty to see and do within reasonable walking distance, a city loop of train and the world’s largest network of trams.
