Art Show

The MiDFur Art Show will be presenting the best of furry artwork, both on display for your viewing pleasure and for sale.  Artists are invited and encouraged to submit art, both 2D and 3D, to our third art show.  It costs nothing but a bit of your time to register, so why not start right away?

Applying

Applying for the Art Show involves both an online registration and a bit of paperwork.

  1. Click here to register online for the Art Show.  Panel spaces are 45cm wide x 90cm high.  Table space for 3D art will be classed as a panel space.
  2. Click here to download the Control Form. These you print and fill out and bring two copies with you to the convention along with your artwork. This is used for keeping track of any bids or sales and checking that your art is safely checked in and out of the Art Show.
  3. Click here to download the Bid Sheet. See below for full details on the Bid Sheet. Again, this is a form you print and fill out and bring with you to the convention along with your artwork. This is hung with your art and allows people to see if you’re showing, selling or auctioning and make a bid if you are selling.

The reason for having an online registration separate from the paper forms is so that you can register yourself as an artist for the Art Show right away and create the art you will display later. We will have copies of the paper forms available at the convention, but filling in the forms beforehand will save you time and give you more time to go off and enjoy the convention.

Please make sure you read all of the following information.

Checking In

The art show begins at 11am on Wednesday, January 4th and ends at 1pm on Saturday, January 7th.

On the first day (Wednesday, January 4th) please check in your art in first thing when the convention opens at 9:00am so we can have the art show open and running by 11am. The art show will be located downstairs in the Victory Room.
Aside from Wednesday, the art show opens at 10:00am each day. Art may be checked in the hour before the art show opens.  Please allow time to deal with the paperwork.

Please bring the following:

  • All your art pieces
  • A copy of your Art Show application
  • Two copies of the Control Form
  • A separate Bid Sheet for every piece of art

Just come to the art show control desk and a staff member will check the paperwork and then you can hang your art. Only registered MiDFur attendees may display art in the show, so your badge will be required to confirm this, plus a picture ID.

Checking Out

All unsold art must be picked up at the close of show from 12:00pm on Saturday until 1:30pm. This is also the time period in which winning bidders and buyers will pick up their art. Any unclaimed art will be removed and taken to the convention operations room located upstairs in the Leaders Room.  Retrieving your art from there may be delayed due to factors beyond the Art Show Coordinator’s control.

You may only remove your art from the display panels after the close of show, unless specially arranged otherwise with the Art Show Coordinator.  Take all your artworks, the Bid Sheets, and your Control Form to the art show control desk and they will be checked out if unsold, or recorded and set aside for buyers to collect if sold.

Payment

While we will attempt to pay artists with cash at the time of check-out, we can only do so if buyers pay up beforehand, so we cannot guarantee this.  If you are not paid in cash on the day, we will send you a cheque in the mail.  It is therefore important that the address which you provided on the application form is accurate and up to date.  Please remember that you will be charged 15% commission on all sales.

The Bid Sheet

Each piece of art that you put into the show must have a bid sheet attached to it – even if you’re just displaying art, because then the bid sheet will tell people that it’s display only.

The bid sheet asks for an artist code, which is your MiDFur artshow registration number followed by the item number. For example, if your registration number is 015, you would put MF13-015-1 on the first piece listed on your Control Form, the next item will then be MF13-015-2, and so forth.

Select one of the following alternatives:

  • Display only – If you just want to show off your art and not sell it, tick this box.
  • Direct sale – If you have a fixed price for this piece, tick this box and fill in the price. This will sell to the first person who bids on it.
  • Silent auction – If you would like to take the chance at getting people to bid up your art, tick this box and fill in the minimum starting bid.  Last bid on the sheet wins the art.  There will not be a voice auction if the bid sheet fills up.  This option may be considered for future shows.

Ratings

The Art Show allows for both general art and adult art. The adult art will be sectioned off. Please use common sense in categorising whether your art is suitable for a general or an adult audience. The Art Show manager, Nikita, has the final say on whether an art piece is to be considered general or adult and will move your art to the appropriate section if necessary. If you’re unsure what category your art falls under, feel free to run it by Nikita at artshow@midfur.com.au

Preparing the art

All art should be suitably mounted, preferably in a mat or frame, but at the very least some sort of supporting board.  Not only does proper framing/matting make your art look nicer, but it protects the art from accidental damage.  The MiDFur staff takes no responsibility for accidental damage caused by inadequate mounting.  The display panels are pegboard, and hooks and clips will be provided for hanging the artworks.
