MiDfur: Past and Present
MiDFur began in 1999 when a small group of friends decided to come from all around Australia to Melbourne, in December. What started as a small meet quickly grew over the next few years to a regular annual meet, every year outgrowing the previous.
After what can only be described as a complete invasion in 2007, (nearly 120 furs all crammed into a pizza shop down the road, and then in the organizer's backyard and lounge room the next day) under the leadership of Melbourne local CynWolfe, MiDFur made the jump from large scale informal meet to major convention.
In the 2 years since the first MiDFur convention, MiDFur has seen over 500 people come through the door, raised over $14 000 for local charities including the Lort Smith Animal Hospital, and the RSPCA, and has some of the most highly regarded convention guests of honour, including Dr Samuel “Uncle Kage” Conway (CEO of Anthrocon,) 2 the Ranting Gryphon (Furry comedian and Antheria board member), Stephan Elliott (Director of Easy Virtue, and Priscilla Queen of The Desert) and Sheridan Jobbins(writer of Easy Virtue, reporter on Simon Townhend's Wonder World and Guinness World Record holder as the youngest TV celebrity
chef.)
Moving forward, MiDFur welcomes esteemed comic book creator, Stan Sakai, and renowned DJ, Fur Suiter, Videographer and Eurofurence board member Big Blue Fox.
We are also excited about supporting the Lost Dogs home in North Melbourne this year. The Lost Dogs home is charity organization that provides a home, and care for lost and abused pets from all around Melbourne, and is part of a larger network of “Lost Dogs Homes”.
We are extremely excited about MiDFur: Heroes and Villains. In another step in the right direction, MiDFur is even more affordable than ever, with cheaper registration, more flexible accommodation arrangements, as well as larger venues, more room to mingle, meals available on site, and perfectly located to enjoy all of the buzz from Melbourne CBD, whilst still having an entire hotel to ourselves.
So come along, be a part of MiDFur as we surge ahead into 2010 and beyond.
