Last year’s venue was amazing. So when looking for a venue where we could grow, we kept the name Rydges in mind. Which is why Rydges On Swanston (701 Swanston Street, Carlton) will be home to MiDFur for 2010. Just a couple of blocks north of the Melbourne CBD (Central Business District), Rydges On Swanston is a short walk from Melbourne Central Station and easily reached by tram. The massive convention area spans two levels with a bigger dealers den, bigger panel rooms and a massive lounge area – not to mention the pool and deck area on the roof. It’s four and a half star accommodation and it looks amazing.
Right next door to Rydges is a rather beautiful park, filled with massive trees, open grassy spaces, long benches and a fountain. It’s perfect for either hanging out or running around in. Also next door and across the street from the hotel is a number of cafes, bars, restaurants and take away food places. But the best food is arguably at Rydges On Swanston itself, where the restaurant and bar on the ground floor operates from 6:30am to 10pm and is open to everyone, whether you’re staying at Rydges or not.
